what the hell is dirk koetter smoking at arizona state. they had a legitimate shot at contending for the pac 10 championship and he blows it with one stupid decision. it wasn't that he made the wrong choice at quarterback in the first place. its that he grew boobs, lost his stones, became a woman and changed his mind for no appearant reason. I thought they would be fine with either quarterback but for a program that has historically had trouble mainitaining focus for an entire season, they wont be focussed from the beginning. this has the smell of a couple of bad losses early in the season and winning five straight to end the season when they are playing for nothing and the attention is all gone. way to go coach.
I read after he made the decision to go with the senior, he had a meeting with the other team seniors (most teams have these- they're called "leadership council" or things like that) and the other seniors were adamant they wanted Carpenter. Dirk caved in (talk about lack of leadership from the head coach) and he made the switch.
What bothers me about this is that the seniors also gave Dirk a vote of 'no confidence' in all this as well. I wonder how stable his job is right now.
It reminds me of the time Abe Lincoln wanted to issue the Emmancipation Proclimation. He read it to his entire cabinent (to include the VP) and asked, in order, how they voted that he should proceed and make the issuance. In order, they all voted "nay". When they were done, Lincoln stood up and said, "the ayes have it" and it was issued. Any head coach is THE head coach and what he says goes- period. Except for Dirk.
and I could be wrong but I think Koetter just signed an extension so no matter what happens it is doubtful the school will be able to afford to buy him out giving him a few years to recover from this. never knew i would get a history lesson at CFT. wish this site was around ten years ago during american history in high school.
