Our AD, Gene DeFilippo (sic?) was interviewed by Rivals the other day about our woeful out-of-conference scheduling (in a nutshell: anytime, anywhere, as long as it's a midmajor dump or a New England I-AA). This is the genius who chose long term commitments with Army and Syracuse instead of Tennessee and Texas so we wouldn't upset our plateau of Dec. 28 bowl games. What really burns me up is that this buttclown pretty much says that Syracuse our our respectable national opponents. I, for one, am pretty upset that 4 of our 7 home games in 06 are BYU, Duke, Maine, and Buffalo. Pathetic. I know we're in the ACC now but that is a weak schedule by any approximation. Does anybody else have scheduling gripes?
BC_Eagle, you are right. I wonder what a lot of ADs are thinking when they schedule. It seems far to often that the schedules are the extreme one way or the other. Bob Goin the former AD at Cincinnati and a football guy from Florida State has done a decent job scheduling non-conference games this year with a two tough games, Ohio State and Va. Tech, both on the road, a solid game against Akron and the annual game against Miami Ohio. I am scared to death what new AD, Mike Nancy has me by the balls Thomas is going to do with the schedule being that he came from Akron. Auburn didnt make the national championship game a few years ago because they played three non conference games against the bottom of the bottom. When will these people realize that the schedule that is played is important for bowl games, recruiting and the ultimate success of the program. Though most of it probably falls on the coach who wants to play cupcakes because its harder to get fired going 8-3 against pansies than 6-5 against a tough schedule.
