Thank you to mr. herbstreit during last nights broadcast of miami beating boston college for the 30th straight time or whatever. Kirk is absolutely correct in his assesment that no matter what we do down in canes land we are always envisioned as thugs even though i can point to at least five or six programs this year that blow anything we ever did out of the water. No matter if its the littlest thing in the world that happens it is magnified because it is miami. Is it deserved? maybe during the dennis erickson hay days but certainly not now. This is a program of good kids and they just showed it last night
Your'e right man. Its one big right wing conspiracy...world against the Canes! All you canes fans should get together with Hillary and get the ACLU to investigate.
It isn't the world vs. the canes dopey and there is no vast right wing conspiracy against us, I myself am a member of that particular conspiracy and i can't remember any talk against the hurricanes. My point was simply it doesn't matter how well run the program is we get crushed in the national media for any little thing that happens. Our starting qb wasn't working a mob like no show job for a bunch of extra jak, like some other programs (how much media attention that one get it was for about two days and it was over) or we don't have our wide receivers being arrested for posession like some other programs (i can only remember one story about that one) But holy sh** a fight breaks out on a football field and we get smeared by the media for months about it. Now admittedly that was a pretty stupid thing for the players to do but espn runs that god dam*ed clip every single time the hurricanes have played since that game this season. You can't tell me that's not fu*ked up. Or maybe you will and that its justified but to say that is to confirm everything that i've just said. There is a media bias against the miami program deservingly or undeservingly and i hope our next coach understands that before he jumps into the fire
Are you familiar with the concept of "sum total", or "body of work" or the definition of the word "cumulative". Perhaps that is why you are not grasping the image problem that Miami has nationally. It has nothing to do with the media other than we live in a country with a free press and they report the news, both good and bad. It isn't like Miami's little run in with FIU was an unusual and really surprising occurence for a Miami team. Where do you want me to start? How about just last season for starters, UM got embarassed in the Peach Bowl by LSU then got further embarassed in the post game fight in the tunnel. Then they had a little incident at Louisville this season with the logo. Then they had a fight with FIU that most that have been watching college football for more than one day would say was about as bad as it gets. FIU immediately kicks two players off the team and suspends 13 others indefinitely. Miami's initial response, " we are really going to show everybody we are not going to tolerate this behavior..you guys are suspended for our very big and tough game against Duke". The whole nation rails about the light Miami response so their hand is forced on wednesday to suspend one player for what turns out to be 4 games. Keep in mind that FIU immediately terminated two players and immediately suspended indefinitely 13 others. Brother, take off the orange and green sunglasses and face reality. Miami creates their own image, they don't need any help. It goes all the way back to the Penn State Fiesta Bowl and a coach allowing his team to dress like that. You may think that is fine and that is certainly your right, but the majority of the nation disagrees with you. Hell, even the UM color guy said during the fight, "thats how we do it at the Bowl, I might go down there and get me some". Reputations aren't made from one incident, they typically are earned over time. Whenever somebody says everybody else is wrong and I am right I typically know that it's time to move on because you are not dealing with an objective rational person. Wishing you the best.
reality thank you for proving my entire point for me. There you go naming off five incidents in the last 20 years bashing my school. I can name 70 programs in the country that have had more problems than us since then. and we are the ones getting the horrible media coverage. Oh and free press did you say that is almost a joke. The press stopped being free in about 1960 we have a selective press these days my friend. And as far as me being the only one who sees this i refer you back to my opening of this commentary in which it was kirk herbstreit himself who said it. Not having objectivity say you well its tough to be objective with a national media who kicks you in the face every chance it gets, but i'll keep trying anyways
Here are some examples for you nonbelievers. Oklahoma, kansas, alabama, arizona, tennessee, virginia tech, virginia, colorado, Miss st., ohio state. There are ten i'll be happy to keep going
Examples of what. We all can get on here and just list schools. Tell us exactly what you are saying each school did. Yes, we do want to see the other 60 as well. Waiting.....
don't get me wrong i completely understand the rep that we have obtained. I just can't understand how the media can't get over it, over the last ten years we have been virtually perfect as far as off the field incidents and on field incidents are concerned. But as i've said the national sports media won't let go of the late 80's and early 90's its a shame really. As one of the best stories of a small school program with one of the best academic programs in the country get written off as a bunch of thugs from the inner city. Personally i condemn those who claim the canes players are a bunch of idiot thugs more than likely 3/4 of that team are smarter than any of you who are on this here site.
Dude, every year its something new. This year they topped it with the brawl of all brawls in recent history. I have nothing against Miami, in fact, I almost went there. But you can't argue how they got their rep. Its pretty clear they defined their image themselves with their actions.
You can be a faithful die-hard fan and still be realistic. It doesn't make you a traitor, it makes you honest.
