I was wondering how your college football research project was comming along and if you found any facts or information we have been missing in our discussions.  One thing I was thinking about that might be a proponent of a playoff system is how many teams that were ranked lower in the polls going into bowl games ended up winning their games.  If the number is above say 30-40% it would show that the voters dont have a good grasp on the ability of teams and that teams should have a chance to prove it on the field rather than some fat, unathletic cheeto eating bozo, I'm not trying to describe Joe C., decide who is the best.   Have you been able to use any information or games played this year to support your position?  Hope its going well.

Hey Bearcat,

Soory for the long delay.  Left US to set up shop in Japan.  Just now getting everything back in "order."

Anyway - what I've found so far - teams that are 6-5 over the past four yrs have LOST their bowl game over 70% of the time.  So, 6-5 teams should not be included in any playoff model.

9 and 10 win teams are almost exactly .500 in their bowl games, supporting a playoff model.

Big 10 has the highest winning %, followed by SEC, Big 12, and ACC.  USC has a great winning % in the bowl games, but the rest of the conf brings them down.

Also, teams that were "in running" for BCS bowl, but were shut out, have lost their bowl games to "lesser" opponents more than 50% of the time.  More often than not, the "hard to keep them motivated after the supposed shaft" has been the party line.  Two recent examples are Cal's loss to Texas Tech and Oregon's loss to OK last yr.  Both Cal and Oregon were in the running for the at-large bid, but Notre Dame was selected last yr, and Auburn was selected the yr before that.

On another note - only one major conf team (Auburn) has gone undefeated, but was unable to crack the title game.  Reason:  Auburn started preseason ranking at #14 and had a long way to overcome and only 11 games to get there.

I'll take whatever else ya'll can throw my way....
