OK, let’s be fair. This was a terribly officiated game. Period. For Oklahoma was the Stewart (non)fumble when Oregon was driving inside the Oklahoma 30-yard line. It took a minimum of 3 points from the Ducks and the Sooners eventually scored a TD from it. There were two distinct plays the Sooners ran about 3 seconds after the game clock was expired. One resulted in a long play on third down that eventually led to a score. There was the Oklahoma offensive pass interference non call that was a score.
On the flip side, the on-side kickoff and subsequent defensive interference call on the tipped ball that led to an Oregon TD late in the game.
The point is that calls cost both teams points and ended up awarding both teams points. And I saw all the plays and bad calls. The bottom line is that the bad calls easily evened out and neither team had an advantage over the other. Oklahoma’s nonstop crying and the idiotic aftermath by the school president (doesn’t he have a school to run?) was perhaps the single most embarrassing thing I have ever seen in college sports.
And why is Oklahoma blaming Oregon? Neither the players, coaches, athletic director, or school president had anything to do with the calls. It was a poor officiating crew and poor review official. As to the Oklahoma tear=stained cries for different officials, who are they kidding? Try WAC officials if you want an adventure. Also, I’ve seen some Big-12 officials make calls that convinced me they had to be blind. I guess we’ll hear conspiracy theories for years to come from the Oklahoma Whiners.
There’s a bottom line here that cannot be trumped. Both teams had their share of horrendous calls. Good teams fight thru them and find a way to win. Oklahoma didn’t. Oregon did. Maybe Stoops should spend more time developing team character and less time trashing his character on all this.
I think all Oregon fans just need to keep quiet and be happy you were gift wrapped a victory. The refs were not suspended for any call they made that went against Oregon. Those are just regular game calls that are missed on a weekly basis. The blatant calls they missed against Oklahoma, even with replay, are the reason they are suspened. Rather than make a lot of noise, take advantage of the win and dont lose to any of the many cup cakes in the Pac 10. This is your best chance to run the tables, even then you dont deserve the BCS title game over a 1 loss sec team, 1 loss ohio state, 1 loss michigan or an unbeaten Louisville. And i dont give a rats ass about oklahoma or hate oregon, just the integrity of the game. My opinion regarding the game is as unbiased as one can be.
don't you know by now that coach crybaby stoops is never at fault for anything that happens to his teams. This schmuck should've taken his nfl money three years ago when everyone wanted him, now after this year and next year when they're going to be awful he'll be lucky to get the colorado job my boy dan hawkins is about to get fired from
Last year, the Oklahoma sooners defeated the Oregon Ducks in the Holiday Bowl, 14-7.
Oregon was heavily favored, and were defeated. There was no controversy in this game.
This yr, the result, a 6 point Oklahoma victory, was assured UNTIL THE REFS BLEW THE CALLS that led to the Oregon victory.
The "500 yds that Oklahoma gave up"....Almost 200 of those, and 14 points were given up in the final 1:22.
Another PAC 10 team got 33 or more points hung on them, and were in jeopardy of losing yet another game to a BCS conference.
To suggest that Oregon is now in the same class as Ohio St., So Cal, Auburn, Michigan, Florida is ludicrous... heck, even WVU and Louisville would drop Oregon like a bad habit.
The cupcake pac-10 schedule is about exactly the same as the little twelve. Texas is the only decent team in the conference. The pac ten matches that with USC. There is not one other title contender in either conference and OU sucks this year anyway. Quit whining about the pac 10. I think colorado was in the little twelve championship last year anyway. Sec is the only conference with more than one powerhouse.
Trust me, I am no Sooner homer. I simply look at things from a fan's perspective. OK has proven to be superior to OR in past matchups. This matchup was no different, until the refs blew the calls at the end of the game.
Cupcake,
I agree that SEC has more than one powerhouse, but I don't discount Big 10(11) as having more than one. Ohio St has proven it again, and with the possible resurgence of Michigan (so long as LLoyd Carr doesn't try to coach them against Wisc, there should be no let down there),they have two would-be powerhouses. West Va and Louisville are making noise, but I'm not sure how they would stack up against the likes of LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia or Mich, Mich St, Penn St, Ohio St, Iowa, etc....
I liked bob knight's zing against oklahoma. a couple of years ago oklahoma had two obvious clock malfunctions go in there favor at the end of the game and oklahoma scored the game winning basket as time expired. knight said if oklahoma had corrected the problem then their argument would be more valid now. agree.
well say what you will about the sissy pac 10. I will however give props to their teams for actually coming out and playing some people this year unlike some other pus*y schools ( west virginia). The big 12 actually is better than i thought they would be this year with nebraska showing some spunk for the first time in a long time, and the little mizzou tigers playing some decent ball. On the other side of course you've got texas and oklahoma but don't discount texas tech and texas a&m both of whom have also been playing some pretty decent football. Quit bitching and whining about the refs it happens sometimes lord knows i know a thing or two about my team getting screwed by a ref and it was in a lot bigger of a game than this one was
